Manchester United are set to have Bryan Mbeumo and Amad Diallo available for selection against Manchester City later this month, following their respective exits from the Africa Cup of Nations. The Premier League clash at Old Trafford on January 17 provides an opportunity for revenge after United lost the reverse fixture 3-0 in October.
Mbeumo’s Cameroon were eliminated by Morocco in the quarter-finals, losing 2-0 in Rabat. The forward, who has not featured for United since December, returned to Manchester but is not expected to feature in Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Brighton due to the short turnaround.
Amad Diallo also returned after Ivory Coast were beaten 3-2 by seven-time champions Egypt in the last eight. Interim manager Darren Fletcher confirmed that neither player would be rushed back, stating: 'I don't think so. It's too close a turnaround.'
Meanwhile, Noussair Mazraoui remains at the tournament with Morocco, who have reached the final week. He is guaranteed to miss the derby, whether Morocco plays in the third-place play-off on January 17 or the final the following day.
