Football fans clashed with security outside the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London on Monday evening, with police forced to intervene as tensions escalated.

Footage shared widely on social media showed dozens of fans attempting to break through a security barrier outside the London Palladium. The ceremony, which was due to get underway at 8pm, was delayed due to traffic in the area.

Police restore order at red carpet

Julien Froment, a journalist for Radio France, wrote on X: "The barrier leading to the red carpet is really struggling to hold, a lot of people want to get close to see the Ballon d'Or nominees."

He added that police intervened to bring things "back to calm".

Arrests unclear

As of 9.30pm, it remained unclear if any arrests have been made. The Standard have approached The Met for comment.
