Manchester City fans made their feelings clear just seconds into the Premier League clash against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, chanting for Pep Guardiola to stay following reports that he would leave the club at the end of the season.
The travelling supporters at the Vitality Stadium sang “One more year, one more year, Guardiola” shortly after kick-off, delivering a clear message to the 55-year-old manager amid speculation about his future.
Reports from 24 hours earlier claimed Guardiola would depart after City’s final league game against Aston Villa on Sunday, despite his contract running until summer 2027. Further reports have suggested Enzo Maresca is being lined up as his successor.
Guardiola declined to discuss the speculation before the match, telling Sky Sports: “It would be very unfair to speak to you now, before this important game, about the events of last night and the newspapers.”
City needed a victory to keep their Premier League title hopes alive, with Arsenal holding a five-point lead. Guardiola has won 17 major trophies during his tenure, including two this season with the FA Cup and Carabao Cup.
