Two non-league footballers have been suspended from playing for a total of five months after placing more than 750 bets on football matches, the Football Association has ruled.
Boston United midfielders Andi Thanoj and Jay Rollins were both found to have breached FA Rule E8, which prohibits those involved in the game from betting on any football match worldwide.
An investigation revealed that over six years, the pair placed 757 bets. Thanoj was charged with misconduct after placing 319 bets between 2014 and 2020, while Rollins placed 438 bets between 2015 and 2020.
Thanoj received a £950 fine and a five-month suspension from all football-related activity. Rollins was banned for one month and fined £500. Boston United acknowledged the bans, expressing disappointment and noting the club's clear policies regarding betting.
Manager Craig Elliott said he had known about the situation since June and described losing key players as disappointing, adding that the players themselves would be most disappointed as they know the rules.
