Former Premier League Executive Highlights Security Concerns for Saudi Pro League Transfers
Christian Purslow, a seasoned football executive with leadership roles at Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Chelsea, has issued a stark warning that the escalating conflict in the Middle East could significantly impact player recruitment for the Saudi Pro League. In a recent interview, Purslow suggested that professional footballers may now think twice about relocating to Saudi Arabia due to heightened regional instability and safety fears.

The Saudi Pro League has aggressively pursued global talent in recent seasons, securing high-profile signings from European clubs and consistently expressing interest in Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, who is confirmed to depart Anfield this summer. "We are in the middle of a war and that could be a relevant factor," Purslow stated on the Football Boardroom podcast. "When you are a wealthy footballer, you can choose where you want to live and have your family live for the next two or three years. I suspect a move to Saudi is more complicated than it was before this year. It looks a bit more of a dangerous place."
He emphasized that players "think hugely about their families and factors beyond the pure football", indicating that financial incentives alone may no longer suffice amid security concerns.
