Former Manchester United defender Timothy Fosu-Mensah is training with Crystal Palace's under-21s in a bid to regain fitness and find a new club. The 28-year-old has been a free agent since being released by Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2024. Fosu-Mensah, who made 30 senior appearances for United under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, spent the 2017-18 season on loan at Palace and is now back at the club.
The Dutchman's career has been hampered by injury. He suffered a serious knee injury while on loan at Fulham in 2019, and shortly after joining Leverkusen in January 2021 for £1.75 million, he sustained another knee ligament injury that sidelined him for nearly a year. Fosu-Mensah did not make a single appearance for Leverkusen during the 2023-24 season and was subsequently let go.
Speaking last June, Fosu-Mensah described his time as a free agent as 'strange' and a 'fresh start'. He said: 'There was a couple of situations with agents here and there, which was a bit of a mess. People were speaking on my name who I never even had contact with.' He added that he has been working hard and is determined to find a new club.
