Craig Bellamy backs Aaron Ramsey for Wales manager role after retirement

Craig Bellamy has tipped Aaron Ramsey to one day succeed him as Wales manager, following the former Arsenal midfielder's retirement from professional football earlier this year. Ramsey, 35, ended his playing career after a brief spell with Mexican side Pumas UNAM and is now pursuing his coaching qualifications.

Ramsey has already taken steps towards management, having completed a brief stint as interim boss of Cardiff City for the final three matches of the 2024/25 season. He is currently working towards his UEFA Pro Licence, the highest coaching qualification available.

Bellamy, the current Wales manager, expressed confidence in Ramsey's potential. 'I'm pretty sure of it and I'm pretty sure one day you'll be speaking to him here as Wales manager,' Bellamy said. 'I just believe he's going to be that talented and I believe he's going to be a big asset to whoever he's with.'

Ramsey has previously cited former Arsenal teammate Mikel Arteta as an inspiration for his coaching ambitions. 'It is inspiring because Mikel was here studying around 10 years ago, in the same position starting his journey,' Ramsey said. 'I want to win all the big things in the game. That's the goal, that's the target - to get as good as I can to make that a reality.'

Ramsey began his career at Cardiff City before a high-profile move to Arsenal in 2008, where he made 369 appearances. He later played for Juventus, Nice, and Rangers before returning to Cardiff. He retired with 84 caps for Wales, having been a key figure in their run to the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
