Everton have been told they couldn't have a better manager than David Moyes for the position they're in. The Blues are unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions this season, despite a chaotic end to the transfer window that left the manager with just 18 senior outfield players.
Friedkin Group exploring investment options
Owners The Friedkin Group announced on Friday that they are exploring new investment options for the club, including the potential sale of a controlling interest. The announcement follows a frantic transfer deadline day that saw Iliman Ndiaye, Beto, Tim Iroegbunam and Nathan Patterson all sold for more than £100m.
Incomings were limited to Ainsley Maitland-Niles, a £4m arrival from Olympique Lyonnais, and Jack Grealish, who returned on a season-long loan from Manchester City. Everton also attempted to seal a big-money deal for USA World Cup star Folarin Balogun from Monaco, only for it to dramatically collapse in the final hours of the window.
Goodman backs Moyes to cope
That has left Moyes with a solitary striker, right-back and left-back in a senior squad of just 18 outfield players. Former striker turned pundit Don Goodman, whose clubs included Bradford City, West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Wolves, told OLBG: "You look at David's managerial credentials and his record. I know 'frustrated' would be the word.
"The fans were frustrated and David Moyes would be frustrated with that window. It was obviously poor, but he'll cope. He'll cope in the face of adversity. He's been doing that all of his managerial career.
"With a lot of the teams that we've spoken about, their problems have been that they're leaking loads and loads of goals. Everton are the opposite: they're rock solid, with the joint-best defensive record in the Premier League.
"He's got them organised, and he's a manager who sometimes doesn't really get the credit he deserves. Everton are lucky to have him, I think, particularly given this summer window and the frustration of the fans.
"They've got off to a decent start in the face of a little bit of adversity. All credit and power to him, they couldn't have a better manager for the situation they've been in."
Unbeaten run ahead of Hull trip
Everton return to action following the three-week international break at Hull City on Sunday. Their unbeaten run includes three consecutive Premier League draws against Bournemouth (1-1), Manchester United (2-2) and Tottenham Hotspur (0-0), book-ended by home wins over Crystal Palace (2-0) on the opening day and a 1-0 victory against Ipswich Town.
In between, they advanced through two rounds of the Carabao Cup, defeating Championship pair Preston North End 4-0 away and Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
