West Ham United staged a dramatic stoppage-time comeback to defeat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park, with Tomas Soucek and Edson Álvarez scoring in the 91st minute and beyond. The victory lifted David Moyes’s side to consecutive wins for the first time this season, while Everton remained winless in ten Premier League games.
Everton had taken the lead through Beto’s second-half header, but Kurt Zouma equalised from a corner before Soucek curled a superb half-volley past Jordan Pickford. Álvarez then added a third from a breakaway after a poorly taken Everton corner, sealing West Ham’s first away win of the year.
Beto, making his first start of 2025, had earlier missed a first-half penalty after Kurt Zouma handled the ball. Alphonse Areola saved the spot-kick, which proved pivotal as Everton failed to capitalise on their dominance. Sean Dyche’s side registered 22 shots but scored only once, a recurring issue for the struggling team.
“The responsibility is on us, it’s as simple as that,” Dyche said. “I’m always mentioning the chances we create and the games we don’t win but we can’t keep talking about it. I can’t remember in my life a team that has had so many chances and can’t see a game through. Where does it go?”
West Ham manager David Moyes acknowledged the win was harsh on Everton but praised his side’s resilience. “We’ve had a difficult period but we are still hanging in there,” he said. The result leaves Everton in deep trouble, with their defensive solidity of earlier in the season now undermined by costly late goals.
