Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has officially confirmed that midfielder Enzo Fernandez will be absent from their pivotal Premier League encounter with Manchester City this Sunday. This decision follows a two-match suspension imposed by the club after Fernandez made controversial remarks about Real Madrid during the international break.

While representing Argentina on international duty, Fernandez participated in interviews that Chelsea management deemed inappropriate. The club's leadership believed his comments crossed a professional boundary, prompting them to enforce a disciplinary ban. Fernandez's agent, Javier Pastore, revealed earlier this week that the player had issued a formal apology to Chelsea. However, speaking in a pre-match press conference ahead of the Manchester City fixture, Rosenior acknowledged the apology but emphasised that the suspension remains in effect.
"I had a really good conversation—three or four discussions with Enzo," Rosenior stated. "He has apologised to me and to the club, and we will address this matter thoroughly after our massive game on Sunday."

The Chelsea boss described the incident as a serious matter requiring careful handling. "It is a serious meeting about something very serious," Rosenior added. He clarified that his concerns were not about Fernandez's character, noting, "Enzo, every single step of the way, I have not been questioning his character or who he is as a person. I believe people make mistakes."
