Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has broken his silence following Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the World Cup final on Sunday, issuing an apology to the nation's supporters after becoming the sixth player in history to be sent off in a World Cup final.
Red Card Incident
Fernandez was shown a second yellow card by Slovenian referee Slavko Vincic in second-half stoppage time after a late challenge on Pau Cubarsi. He had earlier been booked for dissent. As he left the pitch, he apologised to the Argentina fans but kicked a pitchside microphone in frustration.
Fernandez's Statement
Taking to Instagram on Monday, Fernandez wrote: "As time passes, you realize there is something much bigger than a result. For years, this group has represented our country in the best possible way. It teaches that competing isn't just about winning, but about giving everything for the shirt and never giving up." He added: "Wearing my country's shirt is the greatest honor of my career, and I will continue to give everything I have every time I'm called upon to defend it."

FIFA launched an investigation into Argentina's conduct after a brawl broke out at full-time. Nahuel Molina squared up to Rodri, while Leandro Paredes threw punches at Eric Garcia and Gavi, wrestling the latter to the ground.
