England face Ghana in crucial World Cup group stage clash
England continue their World Cup campaign this evening, facing Ghana in Boston in their second group stage outing. Victory would secure progression to the next stage for the Three Lions.
The Three Lions made an emphatic start to their tournament, romping to a 4-2 defeat of Croatia thanks to a Harry Kane brace and further strikes from Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.
That match had been pegged as England’s toughest group stage test, but Ghana should also present tricky opposition.
Ghana’s recent form and coaching change
The Black Stars remain something of an unknown quantity after they sacked manager Otto Addo just two months before the tournament got underway, with last week’s match against Panama just Carlos Queiroz’s second in charge of the team.
He was perhaps fortunate to come away from a 1-0 win in that match, though Caleb Yirenkyi’s late winner sparked jubilant celebrations on the pitch and in the dugout after what had been a hard-fought match.
Thomas Tuchel will know full well heading into this match that victory will be enough to send England to the knockout stages, and he will expect nothing less than three points from his side.
