Morgan Rogers signs new Aston Villa contract after England breakthrough

Morgan Rogers has committed his future to Aston Villa by signing a new contract, the club have confirmed. The 22-year-old, who earned his first senior England caps during the international break, has been rewarded for his impressive progress since joining from Middlesbrough for £7m in February.

Rogers has become a regular in Unai Emery's side, with his powerful dribbling and direct running catching the eye. The Villa boss identified the forward as a target after facing him in the FA Cup last season and was instrumental in pushing through the deal.

Speaking about Emery's influence, Rogers said: 'Not just me, I think any player would say that trust from a manager is the most important thing, and he gave me that, from minute one. He threw me in at the deep end and gave me a chance to shine.'

Villa have been proactive in offering improved terms to key players, with Emi Martinez also signing a new deal before the campaign. The club are keen to protect their core talents as they prepare for their first Champions League campaign under Emery's guidance.
