Eight players to miss Liverpool vs Man City as Haaland decision made
Eight out for Liverpool vs Man City as Haaland decision made

Sunday's Premier League clash between Liverpool and Manchester City at Anfield sees eight players unavailable, with Erling Haaland cleared to play despite fitness concerns.

The match marks the first time either side has played since the ruling that found City guilty of 114 breaches of Premier League financial regulations. City are challenging the decision, and Liverpool supporters are expected to make their feelings known during the game.

Both teams return from the international break after victories. Liverpool beat Bournemouth 1-0, while City extended their winning run with a 5-3 triumph over Sunderland.

Haaland available for Anfield trip

Manchester City have a short injury list, with Phil Foden confirmed as the only definite absentee. The midfielder serves the final match of a three-game suspension after being sent off for striking Bruno Fernandes in last month's Manchester derby.

Full-back Nico O'Reilly is a doubt after picking up an injury during England's Nations League loss to Spain, returning to City for further assessment.

Erling Haaland will be available, with manager Enzo Maresca confirming the forward's fitness. Haaland had asked to be substituted during Norway's defeat to Portugal earlier this week.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Maresca said: "He's good. He went to Marbella, two, three days off, played golf, recovery, and ready for Anfield. He's good. Thank you."

Liverpool missing key attackers

Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak, who picked up a thigh problem while on international duty. Manager Iraola does not expect the Sweden international to be sidelined for long.

Cody Gakpo is also absent after sustaining an ankle injury with the Netherlands squad. "Gakpo has an ankle injury, a matter of him dealing with the pain," Iraola said.

The pair join long-term absentees Hugo Ekitike, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni on the sidelines. Ekitike is recovering from an Achilles injury, while Bradley and Leoni are rehabilitating from anterior cruciate ligament ruptures. Federico Chiesa has yet to appear this season and may not be ready for the City clash.

Defender Jeremy Jacquet is fit despite doubts. "I am happy for him personally, debut with France, that is always tough," Iraola said. "He played well, he should be happy but has a long way to go. He is fit and ready to go. He will be fine. We need to train tomorrow."
