Raheem Sterling faced harsh criticism from Dutch media after Feyenoord's 0-0 draw with FC Volendam on Sunday, a result that handed PSV their third consecutive Eredivisie title. The former England international, who joined Feyenoord in February, has yet to score in six appearances and was substituted in the 77th minute after an uneventful display on the left wing.
De Telegraaf offered faint praise, noting Sterling did well to create a chance that was blocked, but AD was scathing, stating that the 82-time England international and fellow winger Goncalo Borges rarely posed a threat. The outlet wrote: 'Sterling and Borges rarely posed a threat with runs behind the defense, while in one-on-one duels, only central defenders really stood their ground.'
De Volkskrant echoed the criticism, highlighting Feyenoord's poor quality and Sterling's lack of production. The newspaper said: 'Feyenoord relied offensively on the wings on Raheem Sterling, who once again showed little apart from a few actions.'
Feyenoord manager Robin van Persie took responsibility for the result, telling reporters: 'We mainly have to look within ourselves. We had enough chances to score a goal. As the game progressed, we became sloppier.' Fans directed chants of 'shame on you' at the team after the draw.
