A life-size bronze statue of Scottish football legend Denis Law has been unveiled at Aberdeen Sports Village, despite the former Manchester United star being unable to attend due to health reasons. The statue, commissioned by the Denis Law Legacy Trust, captures Law celebrating his famous goal for Scotland against England in 1967.
Law, who was born in Aberdeen, described the statue as 'fantastic' and expressed his honour at being commemorated in his hometown. The statue was inspired by his goal in Scotland's 3-2 victory over world champions England at Wembley.
Graham Thom of the Denis Law Legacy Trust said: 'Denis is such an admired figure in Aberdeen. The 1967 goal represents such a positive time in Scottish footballing history and was an obvious choice as a moment to be captured forever.'
The trust aims to support arts, heritage, and culture in Aberdeen, with the statue serving as a lasting tribute to one of the city's most famous sportsmen. Law had previously praised the Aberdeen Sports Village as a world-class facility when it opened in 2010.
