Diego Costa has reignited his feud with former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, claiming the Italian was a person who had no trust and whom 'nobody liked'. The Brazilian striker left Chelsea in 2017 after a falling-out with Conte, who informed him via text message that he was no longer part of his plans.
Costa, who scored 22 goals in Chelsea's title-winning 2016-17 season under Conte, said on the Obi One podcast: 'He is a person who doesn't trust others. He thinks he knows everything. You don't enjoy training with him, he's always angry, always with a long face. The players wanted to come back but nobody liked him and that's why he didn't last long. The past is the past.'
Conte's second season at Chelsea ended with a fifth-place finish and a 3-0 loss to Newcastle on the final day, missing out on Champions League qualification. Despite winning the FA Cup, he was sacked. Costa, meanwhile, rejoined Atletico Madrid after his exit from Stamford Bridge.
In stark contrast, Costa praised former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho, who signed him in 2014. 'For me, Mourinho, personally, was the coach that I enjoyed the most,' he said. 'This is because he gives you life. You come to training happy.'
The 36-year-old striker is currently a free agent after his contract with Brazilian club Gremio expired earlier this month. He has also played for Atletico Mineiro, Wolves, and Botafogo since leaving Chelsea.
