Chelsea star Cole Palmer's trademark 'cold' celebration has become a hallmark of his time at Stamford Bridge, but his childhood friend Lewis Fiorini has no plans to replicate it. The Stockport County midfielder admitted he would face ridicule if he copied his pal's move.
Speaking to The Sun, Fiorini said: "I wouldn’t do it. I can imagine the messages I’d get if I did. It’s not for me, that one." He revealed the celebration is relatively new and not something Palmer did during their youth together at Manchester City.
The origins of the celebration trace back to another childhood friend, Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers, who first used it while playing for Middlesbrough. Palmer confirmed: "My boy Morgs did one for Middlesbrough, so I told him I’d do it too if I scored." Rogers jokingly acknowledged Palmer's adoption of the move, given the Chelsea star's prolific scoring record.
Fiorini praised Palmer for staying grounded despite his rise to fame. "Cole’s just a lad from Manchester - fame definitely hasn’t changed him," he said. "Some people change when they get to that level but it’s credit to him that he’s not done that."
Both Palmer and Rogers prepare for the new Premier League season, with Chelsea facing Crystal Palace and Aston Villa taking on Newcastle in their opening fixtures.
