Liam Rosenior is under mounting pressure after Chelsea were comprehensively beaten 8-2 on aggregate by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League. The Blues lost 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, with fans booing and star midfielder Enzo Fernandez publicly questioning the team's tactics.
PSG took control early in the second leg when Kvicha Kvaratskhelia scored in the sixth minute following a defensive error by Mamadou Sarr. Further goals from Bradley Barcola and Senny Mayulu sealed the tie, leaving Chelsea with no reply. Rosenior withdrew key players Enzo Fernandez, Joao Pedro and Cole Palmer in the 60th minute, a decision met with disapproval from the home crowd.
Fernandez did not hold back in his post-match assessment, saying: 'I think they beat us tactically. PSG were much better than us.' The Argentine's remarks come after Chelsea also lost 1-0 to Newcastle in the Premier League, with the team slipping to sixth place in the table.
Rosenior, who signed a contract until 2032 upon replacing Enzo Maresca in January, has won 10 of his 18 games in charge. However, reports from Sky Sports France suggest that high-ranking figures at the club are concerned about his ability to lead, and speculation is growing that he could be replaced in the summer.
The manager defended his substitutions, stating: 'I understand why fans are frustrated. This is a fantastic football club where the fans want success instantly. That was a really difficult one to take because of the manner in which we went out.' Despite his defence, the sight of Rosenior handing a tactical note to Alejandro Garnacho in the 85th minute with Chelsea trailing by six goals drew further criticism on social media.
