Moisés Caicedo has returned to training ahead of Chelsea's Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain, raising hopes the midfielder will recover from an ankle injury in time for Sunday's match. The Ecuadorian took a blow late in Chelsea's 2-0 semi-final win over Fluminense on Tuesday but has since trained in New York.
Enzo Maresca depends on the £115m signing's authority in midfield, especially against PSG's trio of João Neves, Fabián Ruiz and Vitinha. Caicedo has not missed a game through injury or illness since December 2023, building an indestructible reputation.
Without Caicedo, Maresca faces complications as Roméo Lavia has missed two games through injury and Dário Essugo was unavailable against Fluminense due to a training injury. Other midfield options include Enzo Fernández and Andrey Santos, while Reece James can move from right-back.
Caicedo, hailed as one of the world's best midfielders, downplayed his status, saying: 'I want to become one of the best midfielders in the world but I am too far right now. I am working hard every day and want to show it on the pitch.'
