Charlton Athletic's FA Cup third-round tie against Chelsea was temporarily stopped in the 10th minute due to a medical emergency in the crowd. The incident occurred shortly after kick-off at The Valley, with the match being broadcast live on TNT Sports.
Charlton's official X account confirmed the reason for the stoppage, posting: "There has been a break in play due to a medical emergency in the crowd." TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher also confirmed the pause, as images of the stadium were shown to viewers. Players remained on the pitch during the delay, which lasted several minutes.
Play resumed after the affected individual received attention, with Charlton later posting: "Play has now resumed. We wish the supporter affected a speedy recovery." The match then continued, with Chelsea probing for an opening goal in their first game under new head coach Liam Rosenior, who was appointed earlier this week.
Seven minutes of stoppage time were added at the end of the first half, and during that period, Chelsea broke the deadlock. Jorrel Hato scored a stunning volley from inside the box to give the Blues the lead, marking the first goal of the Rosenior era.
