Chelsea Eye Crystal Palace Manager Oliver Glasner for Next Boss
Chelsea Eye Oliver Glasner as Next Manager

Chelsea have been closely monitoring outgoing Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner as they intensify their search for a new head coach. The Blues are on the lookout for a permanent replacement after parting ways with Liam Rosenior, with Calum McFarlane currently serving as interim boss until the end of the season.

Glasner's Impressive Tenure at Palace

Glasner is set to leave Selhurst Park at the conclusion of the current campaign, bringing an end to a historic reign that could yet be further embellished. The Austrian tactician famously guided the Eagles to FA Cup glory last season, defeating Manchester City in the final to secure the club's first major trophy. He followed that triumph with a Community Shield victory over Liverpool at the start of the season. Later this month, Palace will face Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final, offering Glasner a potential third piece of silverware.

Interest from Top Clubs

Despite his successes, Glasner and Palace mutually agreed to part ways some time ago, leaving both parties' futures uncertain. However, it is understood that Glasner's reputation has grown significantly, making him an attractive prospect for elite-level clubs. He was previously linked with the Bayern Munich job before they appointed Vincent Kompany in the summer of 2024, and could now be in contention for the hot seat at Stamford Bridge.

Other Contenders for the Chelsea Job

Glasner is not the only name under consideration by the Blues. Fulham boss Marco Silva remains a strong candidate, alongside former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who was dismissed by Real Madrid in January after just six months at the helm following his move from Bayer Leverkusen. Both have experience in English football. Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola, who is also confirmed to be leaving his club this summer, is another option.

Chelsea intend to announce Rosenior's successor after the season ends. Sources have emphasised the club's disciplined approach to identifying the right long-term appointment, targeting a head coach who aligns with their vision, can develop the squad, and deliver consistent performances and results.

Former Chelsea Defender Felipe Luis Also Considered

Another name on the shortlist is former Chelsea left-back Felipe Luis, who played for the club between 2014 and 2015 before retiring from playing in 2023. He was appointed manager of Flamengo in his native Brazil in 2024, leading them to Copa do Brasil glory and the 2025 Copa Libertadores title, but left his role earlier this year.
