Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah was stretchered off in the 85th minute of Tuesday's Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain after a late challenge from Achraf Hakimi. The 8-2 aggregate defeat ended Chelsea's European campaign for the season.
Blues boss Liam Rosenior provided an update on the 25-year-old's condition, telling TNT Sports: 'I just asked the medical team, he's got a high ankle sprain, so I'm praying it's nothing too serious because of the way Trevoh's been performing and we can't afford to lose another defender at this moment.'
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole delivered a scathing assessment of the club's current state, stating: 'This isn't a Liam Rosenior problem... This is a problem with strategy and the direction of where the club are going. There's a lot of money being spent, and we need to really think of what we're doing.'
With the Champions League exit, Chelsea's only remaining hope for silverware is the FA Cup, where they face League One side Port Vale. The Blues also sit sixth in the Premier League, one point behind fifth-placed Liverpool, in a battle for Champions League qualification.
Rosenior's squad next travel to Everton on Saturday evening in a 5:30pm GMT kick-off, aiming to bounce back from their European disappointment.
