Celtic target Mika Baur: Paderborn may sell if big bid arrives

Paderborn sporting director Sebastian Lange has admitted the club could be forced to sell Celtic target Mika Baur if a significant offer arrives. However, he stressed the player is content to remain with the Bundesliga newcomers for the upcoming season.

Celtic have been in discussions with Paderborn over the German Under-21 midfielder, having already had a £4million bid rejected. The Scottish champions remain hopeful a deal can be struck despite Paderborn's tough stance on his valuation.

Paderborn soften stance on Baur's future

Speaking to Kicker, Lange said: "The financial side might say that something is of interest to SC Paderborn. But until that happens, there's no point in discussing it." He insisted Baur is in no rush to leave for the Scottish Premiership, noting that "informal" talks on a new contract have taken place. "All the players who are here are fully motivated to play in the Bundesliga. The lads certainly have goals and dreams. But if someone has a contract and we're facing a highlight season, then we'll decide what happens," Lange added.

Celtic also target Haissem Hassan

Celtic are also keen on Haissem Hassan, but a deal for the Real Oviedo winger is not imminent. Following Oviedo's relegation last season, Hassan's release clause dropped to £10m from £16m. With his contract expiring at the end of this season, clubs are unlikely to pay that fee. La Voz de Asturias reports Hassan is due back with Oviedo this week and will rejoin Julián Calero's squad while waiting for his situation to be resolved.

Other targets: Cancellieri and Taylor

Reports in Italy suggest Matteo Cancellieri is on Celtic's shopping list, with his Lazio contract set to expire next summer. La Gazzetta dello Sport reports the Serie A giants are "open to offers" and could let the wide man leave on loan or permanently. Greg Taylor has been linked with a return to Glasgow's East End from PAOK by reports in Greece. Athlos News suggests boss Alessio Lisci does not consider the left-back part of his plans for the season ahead. It is claimed Taylor is on Celtic's list of targets, but an approach has not been firmed up at this stage.
