Celtic supporters remain divided over Martin O'Neill's future after the team's defeat to Falkirk, with the Hotline receiving a split verdict on whether the manager should stay or go.
Fans Call for Change
Kenny Wilson, Moffat, said: "After another shocking performance from Celtic. Things need to change sooner rather than later. The manager and his staff need to go now because I've no idea what they do in training but the team has no idea and no plan. It's just 11 players thrown onto the pitch and hope for the best. But knowing this club, nothing will change until it's too late. Time to go Martin and put your feet up"
James McShane, New Hampshire, added: "Okay, I have to say the quiet thing out loud; Martin O'Neill has to go including the whole backroom staff. The excuses for the losses and dropped points are becoming embarrassing. The latest from the manager is that it takes time for the players to gel? They've signed around 12 players this year and played 19 games so far in all competitions, surely that's enough time to gel."
Support for the Manager
However, not everyone is calling for O'Neill's departure. Laurie McCall, Carntyne, said: "Disappointing result at Falkirk and some underwhelming performances lately. But to read the whimpering, whingeing and cringing with fear in comments from so called fans demanding Martin's sacking. We are four points clear in the league! They would shove you overboard in a lifeboat if you fell asleep. Get a grip!"
McShane also noted that Falkirk have signed 17 players this year and are "firing on all cylinders," while suggesting O'Neill should consider leaving during the upcoming international break and that Celtic should try to entice John McGlynn to Parkhead.
Memories and Other Clubs
The rare Falkirk win brought back memories for Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, who recalled Falkirk's 1965 6-2 victory over Celtic at Brockville. He said: "I well remember that great night of Falkirk's 1965 6-2 pummeling of Celtic at Brockville. I lived in Falkirk and went to that midweek game."
William Masson, Aboyne, urged patience with Stephen Robinson at Aberdeen, saying: "The Dons' defeat on Saturday night can be summed up by more than a few fans saying it wasn't as bad as we'd feared. Since sacking the man in the other dugout in 2021, our on-pitch performance has been woeful and continues to regress."
In Edinburgh, Neil Renton, Leith, celebrated Hibs' League Cup semi-final win over Hearts, saying: "Halloween might be over but Hibs definitely scared Hearts with their win in the League Cup semi-final. I thought the Jambos were supposed to be the biggest team in Edinburgh? The Hibs are back and we mean business."
Peter Cooperwhite disagreed, responding to comments from ex-Hearts player Allan Preston: "So ex-Hearts player Allan Preston said Hibs have a great chance of winning the cup as they're a good team? Allan, Hibs are rooted to the bottom of league. Really good team? Yeah, I'll crack the jokes..."
