Michael Carrick has revealed he spoke to Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada and director of football Jason Wilcox after his side's 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, but remains in the dark over whether he will be sacked. The loss at Old Trafford extended United's winless run to eight games, with the club winning just two of their 12 matches in all competitions this season.
Second heavy defeat in days
The Bournemouth defeat follows a 4-1 thrashing by Como in the Champions League, leaving Carrick in a precarious position despite supportive chants from United fans before, during and after the game. The 45-year-old acknowledged his role as head coach is hanging by a thread after another dismal display.
Asked whether he had spoken to Berrada and Wilcox after the match, Carrick said: "[They] just briefly came down like they always do after a game, but nothing out of the ordinary."
Carrick takes responsibility
United have a free midweek before their next Premier League fixture against Chelsea, and Carrick attended his usual post-match media duties at Old Trafford. When asked if he expected to be sacked in the coming days, he said: "I totally understand the situation. I'm not expecting anything in particular, to be honest."
He added: "Carrying on as normal, and you know, I love this place. I'll always do what I feel is going to be best for the football club, whatever decision is made on anything, really. So that's kind of it. I'm not expecting anything either way."
"I take the responsibility. Of course, I take responsibility. I've said that, and I accept the responsibility. Whatever is going to happen results-wise, whether we win, we lose, draw, whatever happens through the whole football club, I'm in this position because I respect the position that I'm in, and the responsibility is mine. What else can I say, really, right now?"
