Michael Carrick is pleased with the speed at which Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford have rediscovered the understanding which makes them a “particularly dangerous” threat for Manchester United.
Rashford has now started back-to-back games for United and his partnership with Shaw is flourishing once again. They combined very well in the draw at Everton and posed the Toffees' right flank plenty of problems.
Renaissance on the left
The duo have played together 202 times for United, although both have looked close to the end at Old Trafford in the last two years, so their renaissance as a partnership down the left has come as a surprise.
They showed that understanding at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and although Carrick wanted to touch on other partnerships, he is happy with the threat Shaw and Rashford are showing.
“I think you're trying to build on partnerships and combinations throughout the team, really,” he said. “They've played together for quite some time now and have an understanding.
“It's obviously up to us to build the understandings and combinations all the time. I thought we had that quite a lot through the middle of the pitch today at certain times.
“I thought we played some really good football through the middle of the pitch, Bryan [Mbeumo] got his goal on the right, and Marcus and Luke were particularly dangerous down that side.”
Rashford's strong start
Rashford was expected to leave the club this summer but he has stayed around after Barcelona turned down the chance to sign him for £26million and his form at the start of the campaign has been strong.
“He's done very well, as I said during the week really, he's done ever so well since he came back,” said Carrick.
“He looked really sharp again today and dangerous, that final moment didn't quite drop for him, but nevertheless I thought he created really good opportunities and gave us a big threat throughout the game really.”
