Michael Carrick's future as Manchester United head coach is hanging by a thread after the Reds suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Bournemouth on Sunday. The result extended United's winless run to seven matches and left them 16th in the Premier League table.
Defeat at Old Trafford
Carrick, 45, went into the game under huge pressure following a dismal start to the season, with United winning just two of their 11 fixtures across all competitions. Bournemouth ran out comfortable winners at Old Trafford, with Rayan putting the Cherries ahead in the 38th minute before Marcus Tavernier capitalised on a defensive error from Leny Yoro to double the visitors' lead.
Second-half collapse
Despite an improved start to the second half, Bournemouth made it three in the 71st minute when Evanilson rounded Senne Lammens before curling the ball home from a tight angle. That is how it remained, with United dropping to 16th in the Premier League on just seven points from a possible 24.
Carrick now faces the sack following the defeat, with the fallout from the match continuing to develop.
