Carrick Blocks Maguire Exit In First Man Utd Decision

New Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has reportedly made his first transfer decision by blocking Harry Maguire from leaving the club in January. The 32-year-old defender is in the final six months of his contract, and United face losing their £80 million signing for free at the end of the season.

According to The Sun, Carrick has shut down any possibility of Maguire departing this month, despite interest from AC Milan, Inter Milan, and several Premier League clubs. Old Trafford chiefs will reject all approaches for the 64-time England international, who will remain part of Carrick's squad until the end of the campaign.

Maguire has played only 11 minutes since November due to a two-month injury lay-off. He will be eager to impress in the second half of the season to earn a place in England's World Cup squad, though new England boss Thomas Tuchel has not yet called him up. Maguire's last cap came in September 2024 under Lee Carsley.

Both Carrick and Maguire are out of contract in June. They previously worked together under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and will hope to help United secure Champions League football, potentially convincing the club to keep both beyond this season. Maguire has acknowledged that this could be his final year at United, having scored the winner against Liverpool in October.
