Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher was subjected to a tirade of abuse from an Everton supporter before Sunday's historic Merseyside derby at Hill Dickinson Stadium. As he walked around the new ground to reach his position in the Sky Sports studio, a fan was heard shouting: "F*** off Carra, you soft c***" before screaming "F*** off you k***head." Carragher briefly responded before ignoring the comments and continuing on his way.
The match itself delivered a dramatic finish, with Virgil van Dijk heading in a stoppage-time winner to secure a 1-0 victory for Liverpool. Mohamed Salah and Beto had earlier exchanged strikes after Iliman Ndiaye had a goal ruled out by VAR. Carragher later had the last laugh, reflecting on the result as "absolutely huge for Liverpool" given Chelsea's win the previous day.
Speaking after the game, Carragher admitted he would have settled for a point when the board showed 11 minutes of added time. He said: "I'd have shook with anyone and taken a point from a Liverpool point of view. With the situation with the goalkeeper, Everton were a little bit more threatening." He praised Salah and Van Dijk, calling them "two of the absolute legends of the club" who "won't be here much longer."
