Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes had his X account hacked shortly after the team's FA Cup exit to Brighton. The 31-year-old played the full match as United lost 2-1 at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The hacker posted a series of bizarre messages, including a claim that Fernandes was joining Macclesfield FC, a sixth-tier club that knocked out holders Crystal Palace. Another post called for the removal of INEOS, the company co-owning United through Sir Jim Ratcliffe, amid fan protests.
The account also shared explicit content, including derogatory remarks about footballer Alisha Lehmann, social media star KSI, and pornographic actress Bonnie Blue. Manchester United released a statement shortly after 11:30pm confirming the hack and advising fans not to engage with the posts.
Despite the club's statement, the hacker continued posting, challenging darts star Luke Littler to a FIFA match and claiming Jake Paul beat Anthony Joshua. The England cricket team was also ridiculed for their Ashes defeat. All posts have since been deleted, though two reposts remained as of Monday morning.
United's cup exit means they will play only 40 games this season, the fewest since 1914-15. Caretaker manager Darren Fletcher challenged players to prove their worth, stating, 'If you're not [willing to learn], then I don't think you should be here.'
