Manchester United are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window after securing a return to the Champions League, which should give them significant bargaining power in the market. However, there is plenty of work to be done to strengthen the squad for the additional fixtures.
Increased squad demands and departures
The extra matches will likely require a larger squad, especially with several players expected to leave. Casemiro and Jadon Sancho are both due to depart upon the expiry of their contracts, freeing up a substantial amount of wage budget. Other squad members may also attract interest.
Fernandes attracts interest from Galatasaray
United captain Bruno Fernandes has once again drawn attention from abroad. According to Sky Sport Deutschland, Galatasaray view the Portuguese playmaker as a dream target. However, the Turkish side are reportedly pessimistic about their chances now that United have qualified for the Champions League. Galatasaray, who won the Turkish Super Lig last season, are currently four points clear of Fenerbahce with two matches remaining. They are targeting a new number 10 and a deeper-lying midfielder. Despite their recent spending spree, which brought in stars like Victor Osimhen and Leroy Sane, they acknowledge that a move for Fernandes will be difficult given United's return to Europe's elite competition.
Casemiro prepared for wage reduction
Casemiro is set to leave United this summer, despite a strong second half of the season that led some to hope he might reconsider. The Brazilian has yet to decide his next destination, but a move to Major League Soccer has been heavily rumoured. Inter Miami are among the interested parties, and Sky Sports reports that Casemiro would be willing to take a significant pay cut to move to Florida. The midfielder is reportedly keen to play alongside Lionel Messi, having faced him 20 times for club and country during his Real Madrid days, with each side winning eight times. Inter Miami are searching for a defensive midfielder following Sergio Busquets' retirement, but LA Galaxy have also been linked.
Managerial decision pending
United's decision-makers are yet to decide on the club's next permanent manager. They must choose between sticking with interim boss Michael Carrick or appointing someone with more top-level experience. This decision is expected to be a primary target before the transfer window heats up.
