Brobbey signs new Sunderland contract until 2031 amid Man United interest
Brobbey signs new Sunderland deal until 2031

Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has committed his future to the club by signing a new long-term contract that runs until 2031.

The 24-year-old Dutch international has been one of the standout performers in Sunderland's return to the Premier League, attracting interest from some of European football's biggest clubs due to his impressive form.

The new deal brings an end to speculation over his future, with Manchester United among the sides linked with the forward during the summer.

Brobbey on his decision

Speaking after signing, Brobbey said: "I'm really happy with the confidence the club has shown in me. Since I arrived, I've felt the ambition here, and I want to keep growing and improving as a player."

He added: "Representing Sunderland in the Premier League is both an honour and a privilege. Having played my part in helping this club qualify for European competition is something I'm incredibly proud of. It's an achievement that will always be part of the club's history."

"I know I still can be a better version of myself, and that's what motivates me every day. I want to score goals, help the team and give our fans something to be proud of."

Club's confidence in the striker

Sunderland director of football Florent Ghisolfi said: "We are delighted that Brian has committed his future to Sunderland. This agreement reflects a shared belief in what we can achieve together and a mutual commitment to keep progressing."

"Brian has important qualities, and we believe there is much more to come from him. Our responsibility is to support his development and challenge him every day, so he can fulfil his potential and help the team succeed."

Brobbey joined Sunderland from Ajax in the summer of 2025 in a £21.6million deal, with his value now estimated at over £50million.

Impact on the pitch

Despite injury concerns this season, including a hamstring problem picked up on international duty with the Netherlands, Brobbey scored a hat-trick against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in September.

Since joining on September 1, 2025, he has made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring 10 goals.
