Wayne Rooney has criticised Tom Brady over comments made in a new documentary, saying the NFL legend did not fully understand football. The former Manchester United striker responded after Brady questioned his work ethic during their brief collaboration at Birmingham City.
In the series Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues, Brady is heard telling his business manager, 'I'm a little worried about our head coach's work ethic.' Rooney, who was sacked after two wins in 15 matches, defended his tenure, claiming the club was 'in a mess' when he arrived.
Rooney said, 'I think Tom came in once, which was the day before a game where the days are a bit lighter anyway, and I don't think he really understood football that well.' He added that Brady's comparison to the NFL was unfair, as 'football is not NFL – NFL works for three months a year.'
Despite the criticism, Rooney praised Brady as 'one of the greatest athletes of all time' and acknowledged Birmingham's successful revival under new management, saying, 'I respect Tom Brady massively.'
