Tom Brady has spoken candidly about the personal challenges he faced during his final NFL season, which coincided with his high-profile divorce from Gisele Bündchen. In an interview on Thursday's episode of The Herd with Colin Cowherd, the 48-year-old revealed that the breakdown of his 13-year marriage made his last year on the field particularly difficult.
“I was going through a personal family issue, and it was a challenge. It just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to play,” Brady said, referencing the 2022-2023 season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He added that despite the turmoil, he felt he owed it to his teammates to give his all, though he wished the outcome could have been better.
The quarterback retired for good in February 2023, having initially announced his retirement a year earlier only to return for one more season. He said he had always targeted age 45 as his retirement point, wanting to spend more time with his children. Brady shares two children with Bündchen, Benjamin and Vivian, and has a son, Jack, with ex-partner Bridget Moynahan.
Brady and Bündchen announced their divorce in October 2022. Bündchen later denied allegations of infidelity, telling The New York Times in 2024 that women are often unfairly blamed for leaving unhealthy relationships. She married jiu-jitsu instructor Joaquim Valente in December 2025, after welcoming a baby boy earlier that year.
Since the divorce, Brady has been linked to influencer Alix Earle but recently told People that he does not have much time for a personal life, emphasising his focus on work and his children.
