Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is enduring a difficult loan spell at Celta Vigo, and the club could face a financial penalty related to his lack of playing time. According to reports in Spain, the La Liga side must pay more than the agreed loan fee if the Turkish shot-stopper does not receive sufficient minutes.
Bayindir has been unable to displace Ionut Radu as Celta's number one, with the Romanian preferred in both La Liga and the Europa League. It has been suggested that the United loanee could be used for European competitions to reduce financial liability and give Radu a rest, but Radu has started all three European outings so far.
Clause to Protect Development
A clause was reportedly included in the loan agreement to protect Bayindir's development and give him a better chance of playing in Spain. According to La Voz de Galicia, if Bayindir were to play for Celta, the penalty would be reduced as part of the terms.
The outlet highlights that the Turkey international's chances of featuring are diminishing, with Radu considered a starter in both competitions.
Head Coach Calls for Patience
Celta head coach Claudio Giraldez faced questions over the summer arrivals and their lack of impact at Estadio Abanca-Balaidos. He called for patience but noted that Bayindir's circumstances differ from other newcomers.
He said: "Each player has their own circumstances. Altay's (Bayindir) situation is not the same as Sebas's (Caceres). They are different situations. We all want them to arrive and perform, but we have to be patient. Everyone is working hard; I don't see anyone ignoring the issue."
Permanent Transfer Option
Bayindir joined Celta on a season-long loan with a view to a permanent transfer. If the club triggers the option, he could cost them in the region of £3.5 million, and a high sell-on clause would be included in the deal.
Bayindir played six games for United last season and has made 17 appearances for the club. After Senne Lammens arrived from Belgium, the Turkish goalkeeper found it difficult to break back into the side under former head coach Ruben Amorim.
