Fans tried to break into the Ballon d'Or ceremony in London, with footage on social media showing crowds attempting to push through barricades as security sought to hold them back. Police intervened to restore calm, according to the London Standard.
Security struggle at the red carpet
Julien Froment, a journalist for Radio France, wrote on X: "The barrier leading to the red carpet is really struggling to hold, a lot of people want to get close to see the Ballon d'or nominees." He added that police stepped in to bring things "back to calm".
Other fans climbed onto containers in the streets and jumped around excitedly to catch a glimpse of the players. It is unclear whether any arrests were made.
England hosts the award for the first time
The event marked the first time England hosted the award in its 70-year history. London was chosen for this year's edition in tribute to Sir Stanley Matthews, who won the inaugural award in 1956.
Harry Kane wins men's prize
England captain Harry Kane won the men's prize after a stellar year with German club Bayern Munich. The 33-year-old scored 61 goals in 51 outings last season, helping the club secure another Bundesliga title and a German cup. He also scored six goals for England at the World Cup as the Three Lions finished third under Thomas Tuchel.
Kane is the first English player to win the Ballon d'Or in 25 years. Barcelona's Lamine Yamal became the first player ever to receive the Kopa Trophy for the world's best under-21 player at the ceremony.
