Zinedine Zidane has hinted at a potential return to management, fuelling speculation linking him with the Manchester United job. The Frenchman, who has been out of work since leaving Real Madrid in 2021, confirmed in a recent documentary that he would like to coach again.
Reports from France claim new United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has made Zidane his 'dream' appointment, with INEOS ready to 'do everything' to secure the three-time Champions League-winning manager. Zidane had previously cited language barriers as a reason for not managing in England, but his latest comments suggest he is open to a return.
In a documentary about Italian legend Marcello Lippi, Zidane said: 'Why not? Anything can happen. But at the moment I’m doing something else. I am sure that I will return to the bench, I would like to coach again.'
Zidane's previous reluctance to manage in England was due to his lack of fluency in English. In 2022, he told L'Equipe: 'If I go to a club, it's to win... I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently.'
With Ratcliffe now in charge of football operations at Old Trafford, Zidane's availability and willingness to return could make him a prime candidate to replace current manager Erik ten Hag.
