Aston Villa produced a stunning performance to overwhelm Nottingham Forest 4-0 at Villa Park, securing a 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in the Europa League final. Goals from Ollie Watkins, Emi Buendia, and a brace from John McGinn ignited scenes of jubilation among the home fans, with Prince William among those celebrating in the stands.
Dominant Display from Villa
Unai Emery's side entered the match trailing 1-0 from the first leg but quickly asserted their authority. The hosts dominated possession and created numerous chances, with Watkins equalising on the night just before half-time. Buendia converted a penalty early in the second half to put Villa ahead on aggregate, before McGinn sealed the victory with two exquisite finishes in quick succession.
Forest Unable to Respond
Nottingham Forest, who had been unbeaten in 10 games, struggled to contain Villa's relentless pressure. Morgan Gibbs-White started on the bench due to a head injury, and Forest failed to register a single shot on target. Manager Vitor Pereira had no answer to Villa's attacking onslaught.
The win sets up a final against German side Freiburg in Istanbul on May 20, as Villa seek their first major trophy since 1996. Emery's men also keep alive hopes of qualifying for the Champions League through their European run.
"We all know what needs to be done," Emery had written in his programme notes. "Something that future generations will always remember." His players delivered on that promise with a performance fit for royalty.
