The Premier League is guaranteed at least five teams in the 2025-26 Champions League after Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final on Tuesday. This result secured one of the two extra berths awarded to the highest-ranked countries in the Uefa coefficient table.
England needed just one win from its clubs in any of the three European competitions to claim the additional place. The coefficient system awards points for wins and draws, with bonuses for progressing through rounds, and scores are averaged across the number of teams from each country that started the season in Europe.
Should Aston Villa win the Champions League without qualifying via the Premier League table, or if Manchester United or Tottenham win the Europa League, England could have seven teams in the competition next season. Italy currently leads the race for the second extra place, followed by Spain and Germany.
Liverpool and Arsenal look set to claim two of the five guaranteed berths, while Nottingham Forest hold a strong third position in the Premier League table.
