Michelle Agyemang has emerged as the unexpected hero for England's Lionesses at Euro 2025, scoring crucial equalisers in both the quarter-final and semi-final to keep their title defence alive. The 19-year-old Arsenal striker, who only made her senior debut in April, has taken the tournament by storm with her composure and clinical finishing under pressure.
Her remarkable journey began at St George's Park in early April, where she was watching her England Under-19 teammates from the sidelines due to suspension. Within days, she scored for the U19s against Austria and was called up to the senior squad to cover for an injured Alessia Russo. On her debut against Belgium, she scored just 41 seconds after coming on, with only her second touch of the ball.
Agyemang, who grew up in South Ockendon, Essex, to Ghanaian parents, balances football with studying business management at King's College London. She is also a talented pianist, having brought her piano to Switzerland to relax during the tournament. 'It's calm and relaxing,' she said, after revealing that the kitman transported it in a van.
Despite limited game time during a loan spell at Brighton last season, where she made just three WSL starts, Agyemang has thrived on the international stage. England captain Leah Williamson recalled being impressed by her aggression in training, noting: 'She came and flattened me. She's someone you can't give a second to.'
