Arsenal fans taunted Morgan Rogers with chants of "you should have signed for a big club" as the Chelsea playmaker left the pitch during Sunday's 2-1 defeat at the Emirates.
Rogers was facing the team that had wanted to sign him from Aston Villa in the summer, but the England international ultimately joined Chelsea after the Blues spent a record fee on him - a sum the Premier League champions were unwilling to match.
The 23-year-old moved to Stamford Bridge for £117million, making him the most expensive British player ever. Arsenal had a valuation in mind and refused to enter a bidding war, allowing the deal to slip away.
Early goal and late taunts
Rogers needed just 77 seconds to score against Arsenal during Chelsea's loss, but when he was substituted late in the second half, the home crowd were quick to mock his choice of club.
Earlier in the match, Rogers had clashed with Declan Rice. The Arsenal midfielder appeared to trip him off the ball, and the Chelsea star squared up to his England teammate, which ended with Rogers being booked.
Mixed start for Chelsea and Arsenal
Rogers scored on his debut against Fulham a fortnight ago and netted for the second time against the Gunners, but it was not enough to preserve Chelsea's perfect start under Xabi Alonso, who suffered his first defeat. Arsenal, meanwhile, are one of only two teams to have taken nine points from nine.
Arsenal opted against signing Rogers and ultimately failed to land a marquee attacking signing, which had been on their summer agenda. Adding more quality in the final third was seen as essential for the next level, but Mikel Arteta's side missed out on several targets.
Other missed targets
Alongside Rogers, Arsenal were heavily linked with Vinicius Jnr when his Real Madrid future looked uncertain. The Brazilian would have been the club's biggest signing in history, but he later signed a new deal to stay in Madrid.
Julian Alvarez was another world-class player eyed by those in north London. He made clear his desire to leave Atletico Madrid, with Barcelona his preferred destination, but Atletico refused to sell to a La Liga rival. A move to Arsenal also failed to materialise.
