Morgan Rogers has completed his £117 million move to Chelsea from Aston Villa, and the England international has wasted no time in making his feelings clear. After being linked with a switch to Arsenal, the 23-year-old midfielder instead joined the Blues, describing them as 'the biggest club in London'.
Rogers was officially unveiled by Chelsea on Tuesday evening after undergoing a medical. Speaking after the move was confirmed, he said: 'I'm so excited. For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London and a club I've always admired since I was a kid.'
The former Aston Villa star credited new manager Xabi Alonso as a major factor in his decision. 'I've had a few conversations with him and I think it's important for me to be here that I need to understand what the manager’s like,' Rogers explained. 'It very much fits with the way I see the game, the way I want to play.'
Rogers will also reunite with childhood friend Cole Palmer at Stamford Bridge. The pair grew up together at Manchester City and have been keen to play alongside each other. 'He’s non-stop ringing my phone, texting me, and I can’t wait,' Rogers said. 'I think that’s probably the most special thing, playing with one of your best friends.'
Rogers’ move ends Arsenal’s hopes of signing the in-form player, who scored 14 goals for Aston Villa last season and helped them win the Europa League title.
