Nick Woltemade Vows to Succeed at Newcastle Despite Mid-Season Setback

Newcastle United striker Nick Woltemade has reaffirmed his commitment to the club, insisting he will make his mark in the Premier League after a challenging debut season. The German international, who joined from Stuttgart, ended the campaign with 11 goals but lost his starting spot mid-season and was deployed in a deeper midfield role.

Speaking to Stern magazine, Woltemade dismissed speculation linking him with Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. 'I moved to the Premier League at 23, the best league in the world. I've learned a lot this season. I've improved athletically, I can keep up with the tremendous pace and hold my own in challenges. Overall, it's been a step forward. That's why I have no doubts about Newcastle. I'll make my mark there,' he said.

Woltemade enjoyed a prolific first half of the season, scoring nine goals before Christmas, but his form dipped thereafter. He acknowledged the difficulty of adapting to a deeper role, stating: 'I'm expected to score or provide an assist in every game. But if I'm not playing in attack, it's significantly more difficult for me to get into dangerous scoring positions.' Despite this, he admitted dissatisfaction with his overall contributions, saying: 'Of course, I'm not satisfied with how things have gone in sporting terms over the past few months – especially because my start in Newcastle was so strong.'

Head coach Eddie Howe expressed optimism about Woltemade's development, particularly his partnership with Yoane Wissa. 'I thought his pass for Yoane was sublime against Arsenal. It was great to see those two link together and looked like it could be a potential partnership for us,' Howe said in May.
