Liverpool manager Arne Slot has delivered a positive injury update ahead of Saturday's crucial Premier League home game against Chelsea, with several key players nearing a return to action.
Alexander Isak back in contention
Slot revealed that Swedish striker Alexander Isak, who has struggled with injuries this season, could feature against the Blues. The 26-year-old missed last Sunday's defeat at Manchester United due to a groin problem sustained in training, but he returned to training with the squad on Thursday.
"Alex trained with us again yesterday for the first time," Slot said on Friday afternoon. "All good. He did parts of it, hopefully he can do parts or everything today and we see how much we are going to use him."
Updates on Salah, Alisson, and others
Slot also provided updates on several other players. Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson remains unavailable, but Giorgi Mamardashvili trained for the first time on Friday. Mohamed Salah is "very, very close" to returning, similar to Alisson. Ibrahima Konate missed Wednesday's session for personal reasons but was back in training on Thursday and Friday. Florian Wirtz was unwell but also trained on Thursday.
"Alisson not yet, Giorgi today for first time," Slot added. "Mo is very very close like Ali. Ibou had a personal reason for not training on Wednesday but was yesterday and today and Florian was a bit unwell but trained yesterday as well."
Liverpool will hope the returning players can boost their chances against a strong Chelsea side at Anfield this weekend.
