Arbroath are set to pull off a major signing coup with the capture of Kyle Magennis. The midfielder had several options in Scotland, England and abroad but Record Sport understands he is set to make the move to Gayfield.
Co-managers convince midfielder
Arbroath bosses David Gold and Colin Hamilton have done a major job in convincing the 28-year-old to boost their Championship charge. Magennis is a free agent after he left Kilmarnock in the summer. He is set to pen a deal for the season with the Red Lichties.
The former Scotland Under-21 cap has been training with the Angus club in recent weeks just to top up his fitness. He has now decided to commit having been impressed by Gold and Hamilton's plans and ambitions.
Debut could come at Raith Rovers
Magennis had options and trial opportunities here and overseas, but has decided to join Arbroath. Arbroath hope to have the deal done and registered so he can make his debut in the weekend clash away to Raith Rovers on Saturday.
Arbroath currently sit fourth in the Championship and are looking to push on towards the play-offs again. They have been the top part-time club in Scotland in recent seasons under the guidance of Gold and Hamilton.
Proving fitness after injuries
Magennis is keen to use the move to prove his fitness after a number of luckless and serious injuries. The midfielder is back and fully fit and looking to get his career back up and running.
Magennis made his name at St Mirren before he moved on to Hibs. He left Killie after three years at Rugby Park over the summer.
