Kimi Antonelli produced a composed drive to win the Miami Grand Prix, holding off McLaren’s Lando Norris for his third straight Formula One victory. The 19-year-old Mercedes driver, in only his second season, extended his championship lead to 20 points over teammate George Russell.
Antonelli’s performance drew praise from Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff, who described it as “really impressive”. The Italian, who cannot legally drink in the US, earned his win under intense pressure from Norris, the defending champion.
The race turned on a pit stop undercut by Mercedes, allowing Antonelli to pass Norris as he emerged from the pits. McLaren’s Oscar Piastri finished third, while Max Verstappen recovered from a first-lap spin to take fifth for Red Bull. Russell could only manage fourth.
Antonelli admitted it was not easy: “This is just the beginning. The road is still long. The team did a great strategy, we did a massive undercut and then we managed to bring it home.”
Mercedes remain undefeated in grands prix this season, with major upgrades still to come. Antonelli’s calmness under pressure, even as Norris hounded him to the finish, marked his best performance yet in a dominant run.
