Former Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been banished from training by Mexican club Monterrey following a tantrum when he was substituted during a match. The 30-year-old was replaced in the 74th minute of Monterrey's 3-2 defeat to Chivas de Guadalajara last Sunday, and his reaction on the bench did not please manager Nicolas Sanchez.
According to Mexican outlet TUDN, Martial will train away from the main group for the remainder of the week. The Frenchman joined Monterrey in September 2025 on a two-year deal but has struggled to make an impact, scoring just once in his last 21 appearances for the club.
Martial, who was once the most expensive teenager in the world after signing for Manchester United for £36 million in 2015, has seen his career decline. He scored 90 goals in 317 games for United but was released when his contract expired in 2024. He then had a brief spell with AEK Athens, scoring nine times in 24 outings.
Despite being named Golden Boy winner in 2015, Martial has never fulfilled his early potential. Former United teammate Diogo Dalot recently said of him: 'If he wanted, he could be the best player in the world. Easily.'
