Ruben Amorim has cast doubt over his future at Manchester United following a fiery press conference after the 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road. The Portuguese manager stressed he is the club's manager, not just a coach, and called on the scouting department and sporting director to 'do their job'.
Amorim's comments came after a week of reports questioning his tactical approach and strained dialogue with director of football Jason Wilcox. The 40-year-old, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November 2024, has experienced more lows than highs during his tenure.
When asked if he still felt he had the board's confidence, Amorim said: 'I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach. I know my name is not Tuchel, Conte or Mourinho, but I'm the manager. It's going to be like this for 18 months or when the board decides to change.'
He added: 'I'm not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy comes to replace me. In every department – the scouting department, the sporting director – needs to do their job. I will do mine for 18 months and then we move on.'
