Alejandro Garnacho appears destined to leave Manchester United this summer after being omitted from the squad for the final Premier League match of the season. The 20-year-old winger was left out of the 2-0 victory over Aston Villa, and reports indicate that manager Ruben Amorim has informed him he is not part of the club's plans for the upcoming campaign.
Napoli have reignited their interest in the Argentina international after seeing a £40 million bid rejected in January. Manchester United are understood to value Garnacho at around £70 million, but a compromise fee closer to £50 million could be agreed. Napoli sporting director Giovanni Manna is expected to meet with United officials to begin negotiations.
Garnacho's frustration was evident on the final day of the season, as he was the only player not to applaud Amorim's address to supporters. Despite his situation, the winger will be required to join United's post-season tour of south east Asia. Amorim insisted: 'He continues to be a Manchester United player. Everybody is going because we have to meet our fans.'
Speaking after the Europa League final defeat, Garnacho gave a frank assessment of the season. 'The season was s***… I don’t know. I’m going to try to enjoy the summer and see what happens after,' he said. The winger contributed 11 goals and 10 assists in 58 appearances this season and remains under contract until June 2028.
Speculation over his future has been fuelled by his girlfriend Eva Garcia, who posted 'last game' with a crying emoji on social media after Sunday's match. Napoli are also pursuing Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer, but Garnacho remains a key target as the Italian champions prepare for a summer of change under Antonio Conte, who is set to step aside.
